Wine Spectator 93 points - A classy example of sleek, Burgundian Chardonnay, this is trim, with lively acidity and a zesty offering of tangerine, citrus, tart white peach and subtle oak. Charming now but built to age, this will likely be better by 2017. Sails along on the finish. Drink now through 2021.-J.L.  (Mar 30 2016)

Wine Advocate 91 points - Lastly, the 2013 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard displays plenty of wet, gravelly minerals, medium body and terrific acidity, with notes of apple blossom, citrus, honeysuckle and white peach. This is one of the Chardonnays that ages well, and a 2005 served at the same tasting was still holding onto life.  (Mar 2016)

Located in gently rolling terrain north of Carneros Highway, the soils are quite heavy clay. Vine selection is old Wente, Robert Young and Long Vineyards – each a Wente selection themselves – ranging in age from 10 to 29 years old. The Wente is marked by very small grape clusters, with small berries, and the so-called "hen-and-chick” -- large and small berries within the same cluster. The Wente produces a classic, Burgundian-style wine without the tropical fruit tones of some California Chardonnays. The Long Vineyards selection adds a floral note, and the Hyde Vineyard wines often seem charming and feminine. High natural acidity plays a prominent role.
Wine maker notes
Located in gently rolling terrain north of Carneros Highway, the soils are quite heavy clay. Vine selection is Old Wente and Long Vineyards, and the vines range from 7 to 24 years old. The Wente is marked by very small grape clusters, with small berries, and the so-called "hen-and-chick”--large and small berries within the same cluster.

The Wente produces a classic, Burgundian-style wine, without the tropical fruit tones of some California Chardonnays. The Long Vineyards selection adds a floral note, and the Hyde Vineyard wines often seem charming and feminine.

Hyde Vineyard fruit has structure and density and are therefore able to absorb more oak without being overwhelmed. The wine will see around seventy percent new Burgundian barrels and spend up to twenty-one months in barrel, completely sur lies, before being bottled without filtration.

Ramey Wine Cellars is dedicated to creating high quality, handcrafted wines with balance and richness from the area’s finest vineyards. Our philosophy is our process: It’s about respect for the land. Nature guides our process and we listen – closely. It’s about terroir. The vineyards are selected for their ability to sustainably produce the highest quality fruit. The soil must be right for the climate, which must be right for the terrain, which must be right for the varietal. It’s about harmony – the marriage of Old World methods with New World innovations. It’s about a family of wines crafted for the now, but even better with age. Bold, but in check, sensual, these are wines in perfect balance. Ramey Wine Cellars. Guided by passion and a commitment to goodness in the glass.
