Wine Advocate 89 points - Among those wines tasted in tank from its collection that displays amplitude and density at the expense of some clarity, Michel’s 2012 Chablis Grenouilles features chalk-infused apple and winter pear, a slick of glycerol underscoring their ripeness, while piquancy of pip serves for counterpoint in a sustained finish. I suspect that it will be best enjoyed on the young side, probably by 2018. (Tasted alongside, the corresponding 2011 and 2010 are radically superior - unless this 2012 is simply in a deep slump - as witness my notes elsewhere in this report.) (Aug 2013)

The Michel family have been cultivating their passion for tradition and the Chablis terroir since 1850. The winery is situated right in the heart of the village, with the 25-hectare vineyard spread over the very first slopes that were discovered by Cistercian monks in the 11th century. 40 years ago, the family decided to stop making the wine in wooden barrels, preferring to create clean, pure and precise Chablis without adding artificial woody tastes. Through this philosophy, combined with the limited yields inspired by organic wine-growing techniques, the Domaine has developed a worldwide reputation for fine wine-making in stainless steel tanks. Today, the Domaine is managed by Jean-Loup Michel and his nephew, Guillaume Gicqueau-Michel, who is continuing the family tradition.
