Aromas of dark berries, vanilla, burnt toast and aromatic herbs are balanced by the supple finish.
Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2009 Vina Eguia Reserva is quite similar to its Crianza sibling from 2010, a little more powerful but not necessarily better, with perhaps a more developed bouquet showing some Mediterranean herbs, dark ripe cherries and black pepper. The palate is crisp, with good acidity and length.  (Dec 2013)

Wine Spectator 89 points - There’s good density to the black cherry, leafy and spicy flavors in this balanced red, remaining lively, even delicate, with racy, citrusy acidity, supple tannins and a floral finish. Drink now through 2019. 40,000 cases made. –TM  (Mar 31 2014)

Bodegas Muriel was founded in 1982, when Julian Murua Entrena revived his father’s, Jose Murua’s winery (which dates back to 1926) located in the Rioja Alavesa ‒ one of the three subregions of the Rioja appellation. The cellars are in the historic village of Elciego, surrounded by some of the finest terroir in Rioja. Julian and his son combine traditional and modern winemaking techniques to coax the best out of their vines. The grapes are harvested from vines that are on average 30-50 years old from vineyards planted in Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta on chalk, sand and clay soil. The macroclimate of the region, influenced by the Mediterranean, Continental and Atlantic, helps the vines produce very aromatic and elegant wines. The name Muriel comes from the combination of the family name, Murua, and the name of the town itself, Elciego.
Technical notes
Tempranillo is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, after which the wine aged for 24 months with three rackings into American and French oak barrels.

Food pairing
Ideal all type of grilled and roasted meats. It also matches well with strong fish and all kind of cured cheeses. Tasty with chocolate desserts and puddings.
