COLOUR : Rich deep gold NOSE: Very powerful, "medicine", smoke, seaweed and ozone characters overlaying a sweetness BODY: Full and strong PALATE: A massive peated burst of flavour with hints of sweetness at the end FINISH: Long and savoury
Ultimate Beverage Challenge 93 points - Heavily smoky and meaty on the nose yet balanced by subtle citrus aromas and a hint of apricot and candied ginger. Light bodied but with powerful flavors of peat smoke, sea brine and toasted walnut. Vanilla makes an appearance before finishing robust and smoky.  (Apr 2014)

Wine Enthusiast 90 points - A veritable aromatic feast of maritime notes: seaweed, iodine, pine needle, matchstick and olive brine. The palate entry is full of mint, Sherry, pork rind, bacon fat, chimney soot and rancio tastes; by midpalate flavors of cocoa, coffee, pipe tobacco, chocolate-covered orange, marzipan and vanilla extract proliferate. Luscious and stupendously good. P.P. (12/31/2007) 90-95 (Dec 2007)

We mature Laphroaig in seasoned oak barrels, charred before filling to impart a slight sweet vanilla nuttiness. Original Cask Strength Laphroaig is barrier-filtered only just, to remove the small char particles present. This means you will enjoy Laphroaig exactly as we made it. In extremes of temperature and when you add water it may appear a little cloudy - this is the natural condition of a malt of such a peaty pungence and uncompromising purity. Adding a little water releases a rich aroma of peat smoke with some sweetness and strong hints of the sea.

For 200 years a small team of dedicated islanders have worked here to create what is considered to be the most distinctive single malt in the world. Of course over time the people change, but our traditional methods, the ancient skills and absolute dedication to quality always remains.
