Le Dix 2003 has a deep intense ruby color. The powerful nose develops aromas of dry fruit and of ripe wild cherry completed with a lot of spicy and terpenic aromas (wax, cedar, laurel, eucalyptus). The oak is elegant and nicely integrated with the fruit. This adds to the wine pleasant aromas of vanilla, tobacco and cinnamon… The concentration is impressive but the wine stays very well balanced and elegant, fresh, juicy, consistent with rich but ripe and soft tannins. It finishes with a strong taste of cherry (kirsch) and a very nice mineral character with a light bitterness of walnut peel. This outstanding wine is already very expressive but it is so rich and tannic that it needs more time in the bottle to for even more softness and complexity.
Le Dix began in ‘98 to honor Rothschild’s first ten years since acquiring Viña los Vascos. All you want in a Bordelaise-styled red, this winner is from mainly 50-year old 100% Colchagua Valley (the prime red wine region) Cabernet vines and aged 12-14 months in new French oak. A gorgeous nose of racy red berries followed by sandalwood and tobacco leads to a palate of blackberries, cassis, red currant, coffee and creosote flavors. The bright long finish has great acidity and flawlessly balanced tannins. The label may say "Chile", but the pedigree says "Bordeaux".

Ripe and solid, this is holding on nicely despite the late release, with polished raspberry and currant fruit layered with hints of briar, mocha and mineral. Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2008.
