Patrick Lesec Selections Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Bargeton 2005

BN#218308 |
From one of the more dedicated and committed French wine brokers comes his best cuvee. This old vine Grenache wine has oodles of sweet red fruit, supported by a nice sheen of oak and vanilla. A mix of subtle yet dense notes of garigue, lavender and plum gives this wine more complexity that most of its competitors. A surprisingly forward palate makes this wine a great picnic red, for cured meats or strong cheeses it is right at home, which is where you should take it. -David Goodwin, San Francisco.
This elegant Rhone from Patrick Lesec is made from 85% old vine Grenache and 15% Mourvedre, presents itself as a glistening, limpid maroon bowl. Full of bright red fruit, notes of licorice, pink flowers, and sweet herb fragrance, this intense blend is full of soft yet pronounced tannins just waiting for the benefit of a few years of bottle age. I highly recommend this as a starting point for anyone looking to make the jump in his or her wine collection from short-term enjoyment to future appreciation. -Chris Rusak, San Francisco.
Wine Advocate
Utterly profound, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Bargeton (85% old vine Grenache from the sector of Chateauneuf du Pape called La Crau and the rest Mourvedre) is the only Chateauneuf to be completely aged in small barrels. This full-bodied wine has a deep ruby/purple color and a sweet nose of melted licorice, roasted Provencal herbs, blackberry, and deep, rich kirsch liqueur. It is quite full-bodied, unctuously textured, and juicy, with moderately high tannins. Give it 3-4 years of bottle age and drink it over the following two decades. These are all noteworthy wines and generally sell for very realistic prices, so kudos to Patrick Lesec!
