The Brandlin Vineyard is an historic site sitting on a ridge 1000 feet above the Napa Valley in Mt Veeder; It's been been under the stewardship of the Brandlin family for over 100 years; octagenarian Chester Brandlind still lives on the property. Cuvaison purchased the 38 acre vineyard in 1998 and just completed the building of the Brandlin winery here in 2004. This steep rocky site has schisty, free draining soil that strips moisture and steep slopes that that shed the cold air, producing rich concentrated fruit.
The 2004 is a left-bank blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec,3% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. A powerful wine, bursting with aromas of cinnamon and clove with black currant, cassis and black cherry fruit, the palate is full bodied with flavors of berry, licorice and plum supported by an ample core of firm, yet supple, tannins very characteristic of mountain-grown Cabernet. ALthough you can enjoy this immediatly, wines like this tend to age beautifully.
Limited in production, there were only 808 cases produced in 2004.
