Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2004

BN#196179 |
Vino Nobile is garnet red in colour; its bouquet is delicate and intense, with a slight scent of violet; the taste is dry with a hint of tannic.
Once again, we find ourselves drawn to the Italian noble grapes. By now, most of you know Aviongese to connote value and breed, and this bottle couldn’t be more evident of it. A truer rendition of this DOCG would be hard to find. The 2004 vintage is a stellar one for all of Tuscany, and this wine is one of the stars. A perfect balance of smoky, meaty tones juxtaposes with bright fruit notes of plum, cherry, and cranberry. A small amount of oak is used to flesh out the wine and provides a large background for the flavors to meld. So for hearty meals and cool nights, why not warm up with this gem? -David Goodwin, San Francisco.
Wine Advocate
The 2004 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (mostly Prugnolo Gentile with some Canaiolo and Mammolino) presents a richer, riper expression of black cherries, licorice and smoke, in a linear, understated style, with notable purity and outstanding balance. Although delicious today, it is also quite fresh and primary. Readers who enjoy a more developed wine will want to give this Vino Nobile another year or two of bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2016.
Score: 90.
